War Story – Part 1
01/08/2009Although I do a lot of writing, I don’t do a lot of fiction writing. I do want to write and I do have the Great American Novel in my brain, I just need to get it out. Isn’t that everyone though? Earlier this year my pregnant pen finally gave birth, but in a funny sort of way. For the last two years my youth group has participated in the Charlotte Youth Film Festival and this year the prompt for the film was this: come up with a film that shows the consequences of keeping and breaking one of the 10 Commandments. When we started thinking about this prompt as a group, we came to the conclusion that the “big no-no’s” such as killing and stealing wouldn’t be nearly as fun. But somehow I ended up sitting in church thinking about story ideas and, inevitably, WWII and ended up coming up with this little story about the 6th (or 5th, for our Catholic friends) Commandment. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out and I would love any feedback you have. And in the great tradition of Charles Dickens, this story will be serialized over several days to keep everyone in high suspense. Read the rest of this entry »
